World of Warcraft Expansion becomes the fastest-selling PC game ever
Irvine (CA) - World of Warcraft’s expansion, The Burning Crusade, sold nearly 2.4 million copies on the first day and became the fastest selling PC game ever. Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of World of Warcraft, released the sales figures earlier today and adds that more 1.7 million players logged in on the same day.

Universal Citywalk Burning Crusade Launch ...
North American sales totaled 1.2 million copies while 1.1 million boxes were sold in Europe on the first day. Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment says, "The Burning Crusade has already exceeded even our most ambitious expectations."
The Burning Crusade expansion was released in several countries on January 16th and 17th. Tens of thousands of WoW fans waited outside of video game stores for the midnight release and we covered the launch at the Universal Citywalk EB Games store where several hundred people lined up.
While many stores ran out of copies, other stores like Best Buy still have hundreds of copies in standalone displays. Blizzard says more than 4 million game boxes were shipped to retailers worldwide.
World of Warcraft is the world’s most successful massively multiplayer online game with more than eight million players. Players aren’t required to buy the expansion, but most players will probably upgrade to gain new levels and access to Outland, an outer-dimensional world dominated by demons.
