BioShock 2 PC Has Widescreen Bug; Fix Coming

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

BioShock 2 needs to get its FOV and aspect ratio back on track.

2K Games is now working on a patch to correct a widescreen bug in the recently shipped PC version of BioShock 2.

When the first BioShock launched in 2007, high-def gamers took notice that those still playing in 4:3 were treated with extra image on the vertical axis. This meant that, instead of getting more image to the left and right (making it 'wide'screen), the image was cropped on the top and bottom. Now this same problem is affecting the current version of BioShock 2 for PC.

The reverting back to an original characteristic from the first game wasn't intentional, however, as 2K tells us that a last minute bug fix for a related issue caused this issue.

The good news is that the developers are already testing a patch that will rectify those seeking proper framing.

How about fixing the massive problems encountered while using nvidia 3d vision ? ... not very impressed with a game meant to be 3d from the ground... " right guys, what can we do to make more money out of bioshock 2 ? ... oh i know, lets put a button that says activate 3D vision, but let's make sure it makes people feel sick after 10 min and gives them headaches " .
com'on 2k ... u should know better than that, surely u should have noticed that dynamic shadows are out of place, crosshair...let's not even talk about it, reflections , lightning... All i can say is if a rubbish game like avatar can do it surely you should be able to do it... or is it just me...

Sadly, I anticipated some significant problems with BioShock 2 after the abominable problems I had with the first game: no audio. While I managed to get it installed and functioning correctly on a few occassions, it was, and remains, a problematic and unreliable game. Pity... for once it's running nicely, it is spectacular. I just hope they sort this one out quickly.

Just to provide a different viewpoint, I throughly enjoyed the original Bioshock and am enjoying number 2 just as much. Not noticed any problems at all on my setup (crossfired 4870 1GB's running on a 1920x1200 screen) and the two or three friends that have both games are running problem free too. I always thought of Bioshock 1 as a very solid game, reliability wise.

Hadn't noticed any problems with my vertical axis on Bio2, but then never run it on a 4:3 screen to compare the two, but nice to know they're already fixing issues raised rather than denying them as some companies would this soon after roll out.
