Last time, Matsushita's VHS and Sony's Beta were battling for video cassette format dominance. This time, the contest between the same players will be over flash memory cards to be used in digital cameras, music players, mobile phones and very portable computers to the tune of $20 billion a year by 2003. Sony has a headstart but Matsushita's open standards format has attracted more of the major players.
