Best Buy To Offer Seagate Serial ATA Hard Drive
Seagate has announced that it is partnering with electronics retailer Best Buy to offer the first Seagate Serial ATA storage interface with Seagate hard drive kits to retail customers at Best Buy stores. Seagate's Serial ATA architecture offers data external transfer rates at up to 150 MegaBytes per second, which is up to 50% faster than the commonly used Ultra ATA/100 bus used in most desktop computers. The Serial ATA uses point-to-point connection, eliminating device bus sharing and improving the performance of multi-drive home server systems due to the fact that the full bandwidth of each bus is dedicated to a single hard drive. The Serial ATA relies on socket-style connectors, rather the old-style 40-pin connectors, making it as easy to connect to as plugging in a telephone.
Seagate's native Serial ATA technology offers 7,200-RPM performance along with a quiet SoftSonic fluid dynamic bearing hard drive motor, including the following features: Serial ATA interface, data cable and power cable; DiscWizard installation software; SeaTools software for troubleshooting and diagnosis; and SeaShell protective packaging to protect against shocks of over 1,000 Gs.
