Aliens vs. Predator PC DX11 to Surpass Consoles
Happy that your video card costs most than a console... or two?
Being a high-end PC gamer in a continually console dominated market is difficult. Sure, those with fancy rigs will get higher quality textures and resolutions, but the overall experience is similar. But now DirectX 11 is here, which will widen the gap further between console and PC. While it's unlikely that we'll see another game that pushes things as far ahead as Crysis did, the makers of the next Aliens vs. Predator game promise that PC gamers will enjoy a technical edge over those playing on consoles.
"The PC version of AvP is fully able to take advantage of the features of all the latest video cards and is optimized to make efficient use of multicore threading if your PC supports it," said David Brickley, senior producer at Rebellion, which is at the helm of the AvP game. "We will also be one of the first games to really show off how good DirectX 11 games can look, with hardware tessellation of the Aliens using displacement mapping, and Shader Model 5.0 Compute Shaders for post-processing effects."
Brinkley made his comments in an interview with PC Games Hardware, which focused mainly on the technical advantages of the PC over the console. On the topic of optimizing for those with multiple GPUs, Brinkley replied, "While in theory you could get a 100% improvement in performance with two matched GPUs, in practice it's never quite that simple. We're aiming for a minimum of a 50% improvement in performance - though it may be higher especially when GPU-bound.
"When developing the PC version we always have to keep multi GPUs in mind, as any effects that rely on the data from the previous frame (for example, a persistent motion blur, or using the previous frame's brightness for dynamic exposure control) will cause stalls as the data is passed between GPUs. We have to be careful to avoid any such problems."
Aliens vs. Predator is slated to release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in February 2010.

can't wait for this game.
DX11 is just a minor part of why this shoudl rule. i hope our LANs are filled with it...
I hope the gameplay matches the graphics, then I'll definitely get this.
well my 360 is getting dusty, my rig just got 2x radeon 5850's in it and im getting a ps3 for xmas.
Decisions Decisions....... lol
The game looks graphicly awesome, but I noticed they have still managed to sidestep the question of whether it will support dedicated servers... What's the point of it looking pretty, if you complete the single player in a weekend, and never play it again....

WoW, the alien is really detailed!

Nice one DeeTee, I've been lurking round the Sega forums for a while trying to get an answer to this. Thats the best gaming news I've seen this year, the original rebellion avp was in my opinion the best, so i'm very excited about them doing this remake.
Ta m8.
I hope it looks great and I hope it plays like a PC game should. Nothing more upsetting than a console port.
well the whole of the next year, hopefully we will see a gap in quality between pc and console games, as the console technology gets older and older.
AvP being 1 of them, i also notice battlfield bad company 2 has very high recommended specs in comparison to other games. lets just hope we get more to come that can push us people with high end rigs to the max!
What ever happends when it comes out it sure will be better than playing console games(if you have the processor and graphics cards of course lol)
And my guess is this game will rock online......
Yeah but it depends though on your type. A console is 500-1000 dollars depending on which country you are in, where-as a pc can cost up to 20,000 dollars if you want the absolute best. I built a reasonable rig for 1000 but even then it was still unable to play the latest games, and if I wanted to play the latest games I would need anywhere from 5000 dollars up. But the advantage pc's have over consoles is that they can do so much more. A console is just for games no matter how you sell it. However a pc can do so many different things, and several different things at once on that matter. It is just easier for a console because you buy it, plug it in and play, where-as a pc you can build it from scratch like a car but a lot less pricier and faster to build.
i love FFIX and FrontMission 3 until now..
suck grapics detail but great storyline and great gameplay..
i love game and grapics detail is second..
Current generation consoles are 4 years old now and cost just the price of a few games. To get AvP to look better on a PC you'll need to spend £1000+ on a DX11 machine to do the job. So I'm certainly not impressed how fast PC gaming is evolving!
Man what kind of grafic qality do you want for 20000$.Lets say you have 22inch lcd monitor. Then 1000$ should be enough. You must understand that under the same resolutions as PC console games would be unplayeble. So if you pay for console 500$ and 1000$ for PC you can play the same game on higher resolution then on console with more detail.
Everything really depend on the resoliution that you want to play your game. The higher the resoliution the higher price for PC. I havent seen the comparison, but it is possible that if PC,s resoliution is the same as consoles the price that you pay for pc and console would be similar.
So really you get what you pay for. If you want DX11, you want high resoliutions and you want nicer grafics your Pc would cost lets say 1500-2000$.If you arent high end gamer and lower resoliutions are fine with you ,1000$ PC would be more then enough.
Yesss!!! cant wait!
Just pre ordered a 5890 as well! hope it comes before game release! ha!
"Just pre ordered a 5890 as well!"
Sorry i mean 5970!
@rabid: LOL
in the uk i belive you can pick up an xbox 360 for 200 pounds, new. possibly less by now (ive been outside the uk for a while)
build a pc that can do ANYTHING for that money and ill be impressed.
PCs are better than consoles without a doubt, but you cant try to brush off the price difference
FPS games should only be sold for PC

consoles are for sports games or driving mostly and thats how it shuld stay, you cant show a true classic game on console such as this 1 it rules out why the game was made in the 1st place.
if the game is half as griping as the original games then it will be a belter
wow, i guess you got me.
i had no idea pc parts had fallen so much.
im in NZ right now, were pc parts are horrendously over priced. i guess i never noticed. but then, all tech is expensive here. they want 500 dollars for a wii. jeesus, thats just mad.
