AudioVox's Web Phone
Cell phones are getting smaller, thinner and more capable by the day. One can imagine that, at some point, they'll be reduced to an earpiece that attaches to your thumb and a microphone that attaches to your pinky so that you look like you're miming a phone call rather than actually making one. Tri-mode phones for world travelers are generally bigger and fatter than their strictly digital bretheren but Audiovox is working to make them as small and wieldy as the single-mode units. The CDM-8200 is equipped with a built-in web-browser (UP 4.1) and operating on the 800 MHz AMPS/CDMA and 1900 MHz PCS frequencies. The phone weighs just over 3 ounces (3.2/90 grams) and is driven by the MSM-3100 chipset. Features include two-way SMS, T9 predictive text messaging, a built-in speakerphone, caller ID, voice/text messaging service and voice/text message alert. The CDM-8200 package includes a standard Lithium Ion battery, travel charger and wrist strap. Additional accessories include an extended Lithium Ion battery, cigarette lighter charger, cigarette hands-free lighter charger, hands-free car kit, earphone microphone, a leather bag, and a data interface cable. As an aside, Audiovox Communications is located in Hauppauge, N.Y., a hop skip and a jump from my home town. Just thought I'd give the old neighbors a shout.
