ATI Unveils ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500DV
Continuing to strive toward domination of the PC graphics universe, ATI Technologies is now showing off its shiny new ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500DV, the first in ATI's family of video cards to provide an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) standard DV connection. The board includes features like TV-ON-DEMAND Timeshifting, so that you can pause live TV or create instant replays, and Gemstar-TV Guide's GUIDE Plus+ system, an interactive program guide (North America only) that lets you view and search TV listings by category, actor/performer, or date. Other features include the RADEON 8500 chip, 64MB DDR RAM, a stereo TV-tuner with 125 channels, analog and digital video capture and editing, remote control via RF, component output (YPrPb) to connect to digital TVs, teletext support in Europe, DVD video playback with Dolby AC-3 digital audio, DirectX 8.1, and support for Windows Me, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. ATI says ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500DV (don't you wish they'd stop spelling everything in CAPS?) will be priced at under $500. As a side note, ATI looks like it's getting real buddy-buddy with Intel. Yesterday the company pledged allegiance to 3GIO , and today it put out a joint release with Intel saying that it was supporting the acceptance of IEEE 1394 as the standard for multimedia device connection to the personal computer. I'm kind of Intelled out right now, but everyone likes to side with a winner.
