ASUS Ships A7V266-E Motherboard

Despite the fact that we've heard that some mobo makers may not be pleased that VIA has entered the motherboard market (no one likes additional competition), we've caught wind of two new KT266A-based boards, one from ASUS which we'll look at here and another one from Abit just below this in the next story. ASUS's A7V266-E Socket A DDR motherboard supports AMD processors along with up to 3GB DDR200/266 SDRAM at a peak bandwidth of 2.1GB/ second. DIP switches and ASUS JumperFree let you adjust overclocking settings manually or from the BIOS screen. You can use 1MHz incremental settings to increase system-bus settings over 200MHz and use CPU voltage adjustments in 0.05V intervals over default to overclock to your heart's content. Optional features include a C-Media CMI8738 controller for 6-channel 3D surround audio, onboard Promise RAID controller, and a Realtek LAN controller. The A7V266-E has five PCI slots and connections for up to six USB ports. An ACR interface supports software modem or audio technologies via a modem/audio riser card, and the AGP Pro slot supports AGP4X and VGA cards. The ASUS A7V266-E is said to be shipping in quantities now.
