Dell Uses 'Apples to Apples' Comparison to Show How Its PCs are Better Than Macs

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

Dude, you're getting a Dell!

Along with Microsoft, Dell has also erected a page up on its website comparing Apples to Apples.

Dell pits its Studio 15 and 17 laptop line up against the equivalent MacBook Pro model and its desktop offerings up against the Mac Mini and iMac.

Not surprisingly, the Dell machines come out radically cheaper, especially when it comes to the laptops. Dell even compares some of the pre-loaded loaded software that between the machines in a Windows Live Essentials vs. iLife showdown.

What isn't compared, however, are the more technical aspects, such as battery life, size and weight, display panel type and resolution, among other things.

Check out Dell's comparison site here or the screen captures below.

Everyone already knew that!
Apples is just selling their weaker stuff more expensive.
The thing is...why are people keep buying those?
hmmm...good question!

Apple user's will claim they are more stable.
From my experience it wasn't.
However its a lot easier to make an OS designed to work maybe a dozen or so closely related specifically selected setups like OSX rather than an OS which has to be able to support billions of conbinations of computer setups like Windows and Linux do.

I crash my girlfriend's Macbook far more often than my Windows 7 machine and that has a 50% overclock on it!

For me it's a case of if it isn't broke, don't fix it ... i have no need to compare to any mac as i have no reason to try one :)

It would if you underclocked it as much as a Mac :)

At least MacBooks are (used to be) well built. Yes you can get more tech for cheaper inside a Dell laptop, but their build quality is pretty poor.

Not that I'd pay a £500 premium for a hollowed-out piece of aluminium though...

Well you wouldn't buy a Dell either would you. You'd just buy the bits and stick 'em in a better quality case.

The bottom right bit of comparison where Dell put their desktop system, with a screen and a box, up against the mac with everything within the screen seems to demonstrate that with design too. Again, it's probably not worth the price (and are there downsides such as heat etc if everything is right up with the screen?).

im a mac to pc convert. frankly speaking, from my experience apples product last longer, to me that is their main selling point. i have a very old mac lc575 (68k) @ '93 and a powerbook g4 that still works fine. i built a custom pc (p4) sometime in '04 and the motherboard (quite a famous brand) failed in '08, forced me to built a whole new rig (an amd).

well i know its irrelevant to compare OEM vs custom built, but here's another one, my office bought 5 compaq desktop in 03 and today only 2 that still working.
