Apple to buy Raycer Graphics
Sources say Apple Computer is in the final stages of acquiring all or part of a graphics chip company, in a move to shore up the 3D capabilities of its Macintosh computers.
Sources close to Raycer Graphics say the deal to acquire assets and intellectual property of the 3D chip designer could be valued at around $20 million.
One of a number of graphics chip makers trying to make high-end 3D graphics for workstations that eventually can be scaled down to PCs, Raycer has yet to release its first products.
