Apple slams MPEG 4 licensing terms
Apple is freezing distribution of Quicktime 6.0, the latest version of its streaming media client, in protest at licensing terms demanded by the MPEG-LA, to impose client and per use fees for MPEG 4.
The company says the licensing terms, which would mean paying royalties everytime a download is played, is unreasonable. It is willing to pay a small license fee per client, but until the MPEG 4 terms are changed, it will not distribute Quicktimee 6.
