Apple's iPad Gets a CPU Performance Review
iPad gets benchmarked.
By now, all major tier one publications have published their reviews of the iPad. All reviews seem to be generally positive, but so far none have put the iPad under any serious benchmarks and stress tests.
Our good friend Anand had his iPad delivered on Saturday, and has already run the unit through various tests. Although he's still working on an exhaustive review, the iPad, when compared to the iPhone 3GS and Google Nexus One seem to perform quite well.
The iPhone 3GS uses the ARM Cortex A8 CPU while Google's Nexus One uses Qualcomm's very speedy Snapdragon QSD8250 CPU. Both phones are fast by today's standards, but Apple's A4 CPU seems to stack up well against what's available.
"So how does Apple's A4 stack up against today's favorite smartphone brainchild? Extremely well. The A4 is particularly exciting because it combines Snapdragon-like CPU performance with a PowerVR SGX GPU. A much better option than the aging ATI core used in Qualcomm's QSD8x50 series," says Anand.

I'm sure it is a wonderful processor, but those "benchmarks" are woefully flawed. It is like comparing an intel CPU running opera in linux, an AMD chip running firefox in windows and the Cell in a PS3 running some obscure proprietary browser from sony. Whatever roles the processors play, there are too many variables which are not controlled.
Yeah what a waste of time
Imagine the newest MacPros have octa-cores (double-quad core)
of A4 processors and Intel gets smoked again ever since the
last humiliation of Pentium II man got burnt in his space suit.
I hope Apple will manufacture everything under one roof and
shows the REAL computing business, not just some third-class
products with tonnes of flaws to get fixed.
Sorry the last paragraph is aimed at Microsoft.

Well atleast your brand new username is correct, change "Loyal" to "Fanboy" and you'll be justified in bringing up 15 year old news.
The reason Microsoft/AMD/Intel haven't created anything to compete with anything from Apple is in the numbers. There isn't a need from the market side, Apple has what, 10% of the market? Keep buying your Apple products Loyal_Macuser, we don't want you in the PC realm.
I used to be "pro-IBM" as a system admin, however after managing a few macbooks, I now see why apple can be related to the Hitler of application draconian management requirements.

I agree!
Also, if the touch pad/tablet concept it meant to be a whole new medium (like, mobile phones and PCs) it makes little sense to compare them. Like, who would compare a Blackberry to a Nehalem based quad SLI machine? Even if the hardware has similarities, it makes no sense since they're aimed at a whole different market.
Wow it loads things faster than a Nexus One...Big Whoop...Wanna fight about it?
It is not a cellphone, it is not a smartphone, it is not a laptop, it is nota netbook, it is not a PC, it is nota tablet PC/laptop....
Hmmm...let see how the market develops in times to come...
Note : I am not interested in buying iPad...I own an iPod touch, a cheap Nokia 1680, a self build PC and an i7 laptop from dell... not interested with iPad...I got all I need...
