Apple Announces New Laptops just in time for Holidays
On Wednesday, Apple Computer Inc. released new models of its laptop computers on Wednesday. This includes an upgraded iBook line that starts at $999 US, and a new Titanium PowerBook G4 from Apple's notebook line that can play and record both CDs and DVDs, features a 1 Gigahertz PowerPC G4 processor, wireless networking, a 15.2" screen, weighs only 5.4 pounds and is one inch thick, which starts at $2,299 US. Apple's 867 MHz Titanium PowerBook G4 laptop is available for retail sale now, and the 1 Gigahertz model, featuring Apple's SuperDrive standard, will reportedly make its retail debut later this month. Additionally, Apple announced an upgrade of its G3 processor notebooks, which can run up to 800 MHz to boost 3D video game performance.
Apple appears to have made noteworthy ground in the laptop computer market, increasing the percentage of laptop computer sales from 17% of its total sales in 1999 to nearly 33% of its total sales currently, and predicts that laptop sales and desktop computer sales will eventually be evenly matched.
