Apache server-based websites near 50-million mark
Netcraft has published the results of its September web server survey. According to the company, 71,723,098 web server were active in the beginning of this month - representing an increase of 1.33 million websites over August.
Open source Apache web servers maintained their lead over Microsoft-based systems : Within the past four weeks, Apache gained about 703,000 new sites, Microsoft only 217,000. Overall, Apache accounts for 69.2 percent of all webservers in use, Microsoft stands at 20.4 percent.
The steady growth is expected to push Apache servers above the 50-million milestone in September : 49,598,424 Apache-based websites were registered in this most recent survey. (THG)
