America Online becomes "AOL"; launches $50 million ad campaign
America Online recently has dropped the America Online brand in favor of "AOL" for its online service in an effort to become more attractive to audiences outside the US. Today, America Online announced that it will launch a $50 million ad campaign to jumpstart AOL.com and highlight its "new, next generation, high-speed Web portal."
Specifically, the company intends to promote key features of the service, including entertainment, news and information, "convenience and getting things done," which includes the CityGuide and MapQuest, and communications through email and instant messaging.
