AOL-Time Warner merger threatened
Three regulatory obstacles, the approval of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the European Commission, must be overcome before AOL can complete its planned purchase of Time Warner. Before U.S. officials bless the merger, they will reportedly demand that the company let other ISPs use its high-speed cable. The European Union's opposition, based on claims that the alliance of the two companies will concentrate power excessively may be harder to overcome as there are no easily implemented remedies to the European objections.
