Assassins Creed Origins high temps on 8700K. Is this safe to play or stop?

Hello. I have an question. In all of my games my 8700K got temps like 70-85C max. But playing Assassins Creed Origins ,on Alexandria city temps are balancing between 90C to spikes 100C on 1 core. There is no throttling. And my question is can i still play or stop it?

My 8700K is with cooler Cryorig M9i.

Asus Z370 Pro Gaming. MCE is automatically ON with XMP profile.

So clock is high 4700mhz. Thanks for opinion

  1. You paired an 8700k with a $20 cooler?

No, those temps are in the uncomfortably hot range, and you're probably in need of a new cooler. I recommend at the VERY LEAST a Cryorig H7 or Scythe Mugen 5.
  2. AC:O pushes CPUs like few (or any) pc game to date; it will peg all cores @100%; so if you don't have proper cooling or you have an unstable overclock you are going to have a bad time. If you aren't going to get a quality cooler for your 8700K (I recommend the Kraken X62 or EVGA 280 CLCs); then you need to undervolt and underclock your CPU, stress test it to make sure it is stable with something like Intel Extreme Tuning Utility; or at least CPUz.

Also make sure that your thermal paste is properly applied and that your heatsink is properly seated and secured.
  3. I tested all other games: Watch Dogs 2 ( cpu intensive too ) , Call of Duty WW 2, Doom,3dmarks and my temps are on 70-80C range.
Its only in AC:Origins and i bet that is because cores are stupidly on 100% always with DRM and Denuvo sh*t.

Like i said if cooler or paste was bad i was getting on all games that high temps not in only 1 game.
  4. Yes but if the game is pegging the CPU at 100% for extended periods you'll see higher temps to begin with. Run Intel burn test for about 10 passes or prime 95 for a few hours and you'll see what we mean.

All that means is that those games aren't stressing the CPU like AC:O is, at least not on all cores; what happens when you run XTU for 10-15 minutes? Cryorig M9i is about 10-15 degrees hotter than a decent dual rad AIO or good air cooler. Your CPU should not be running that hot playing a game. Even my i7 960 Bloomfield overclocked to 4.2Ghz doesn't get anywhere near that hot playing AC:O; and it only has a single rad AIO.
  6. I think pretty much everyone here has said it. Your cooler is inadequate for the i7 8700k. You need to upgrade. Really any argument against doing this is moot. Upgrade or kill your cpu. Your choice
  7. Turn off the MCE - set the RAM manually if you have to (but I think I saw you could disable MCE after you turn XMP on). No good running 4.7 OC with a very basic cooler. I have the H5 coming in two days and I doubt that will handle it either.

That CPU should be all you need for AC (or most any game) at stock clocks with turbo.
  8. Just for reference; spent over an hour in Alexandria in AC:O using my rig with an i7 5930K overclocked to 4.5Ghz @1.351V; max CPU temp by core was:
    Core 0: 76C, Core 1: 65C, Core 2: 78C, Core 3: 67C, Core 4: 75C, Core 5: 67C. Package Temp was 79C.

Solution for laptops: Edit the power plan...Change Advanced Power Settings
    Go to Process Power Management
    min to 99%
    max to 99%

My ASUS ROG could play Shadow of War all day but ACO would restart my computer after ~20mins gaming.
ACO had my temps same 90c and above. All other games 70-80c max.
When I changed min and max cpu processor state to 99% everything smoothed out (so I guess throttling).

Now I get only 60-90% cpu usage and sub 80c cpu temps.
