Cpu Help Needed!

So I am a full time streamer/youtuber. I have a pretty good streaming pc. Everything has been working completely normal up until today. I stream off obs with usually around 7000 bitrate and the cpu usage preset medium. I have a i9-7900x, so with even those settings im usually only using up about 50% of my CPU. Suddenly out of nowhere today, my cpu usage just started to sky rocket to 90% and the stream kept crashing. I had the same exact settings on that I have every single other day. I checked the cpu temp and it maxed out at about 65 degrees Celsius. I do not know if the cooling is the issue because it is tough to find a good cooler for this cpu. I currently use the Corsair hydro H55 liquid cooler. Like I said, this is the first time it has started acting up. Any advice? Thanks

  1. - Check to see if you had any Windows updates installed recently. Recent ones have caused problems.

    - Check task manager to see what exactly is taking up CPU. Sort it by CPU usage. Try to find out which program is causing the spike in usage.

    - Full scan for malware in safe mode

    - Your CPU temps are fine if you are not going above 65 C.

should I uninstall any recent windows updates?
  3. I'd check task manager first and try to isolate the program that is causing the CPU spike first. If you cant find it, try using msconfig to start up with no startup programs/clean boot. Then scan for malware. Windows updates last if you see any that were installed recently about the same time you started having problems.

well the spike is coming from OBS itself. It will just jump up to 80% usage out of nowhere. Even when I put the settings wayyyy down it still does it. My i9 was able to handle it perfect no problem just up until today.

OK, sounds like an issue with the program. I would try either updating it to the most recent version or uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version.
