Upgrading my gpu

I have an rx 460 now and an fx 8320, I want to upgrade my gpu and I have to choose between a gtx 1060 6gb or an rx 570 8gb. I also have an 550 watt power supply and an asrock 970 extreme 3 if that matters, which one should I buy

More about upgrading gpu
  1. The 1060 6GB has more powerful graphics processing. That's definitely the card to go with.
  2. I also want to ask if my pc could run ark at epic, I run it at low now, If I upgrade the to the 1060 6gb I have a good gpu. But I have an AMD fx 8320, so would those 2 run ark good?, I have 16gb ddr3 aswell
  3. According to the system requirements, it needs at least a 2.0GHz "dual-core" processor. So the 8320 should be more then enough. Also the 16GB is very good.
  4. The last time I looked Ark was an unoptimized dog to run. Unless they really improved that aspect of the game then I would not count on running it at high settings with an FX CPU no matter which of the cards you get. I suggest you take a look around, Youtube and where ever else, and see what kind of performance players are getting in that game while using FX 8xxx CPUs. That way you'll have an idea if the expense is worth it to you.
  5. I would start by playing some games and seeing which of the two has higher utilization and is the closest to 100%: GPU or CPU. Try a few different games.

The best FX chips will bottleneck any card 1060 GTX and above. If you are getting near 100% CPU usage I would start with an upgrade to Ryzen and go from there. FX really is an awful platform to be stuck on in 2018. I woudn't even consider upgrading to a better AM3+ chip.

I agree with jr9. For more info on 1060 bottlenecking: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q7lIYRK5T0ABLvAkgbM_2jJGvbhlep27mR-eRcCy4FA/edit?usp=sharing

I only have like 40% cpu usage in ark but I have 99% gpu usage

Makes sense given the RX 460 is a weak graphics card. The GTX 1060 is 100-150% faster so when you upgrade, you will begin seeing 100% CPU usage instead and when the CPU hits 100%, you will experience short shudders in FPS. How often it happens depends on the game. If you want smoother gameplay to go with the higher FPS the 1060 would give you, you'd want to move to a new platform if you experience FPS issues.
