Mobo not starting-up

Fours hours ago, I purchased a used AM2 motherboard with CPU. We tested the motherboard before I paid and everything works fine. When I arrived home, I bench test the motherboard with my own RAM card and PCU and this what happens.

- The power light on Mobo is lit
- CPU fan is on
- No initial beep and no display
- No mouse and keyboard lights

Since everything works fine at the seller's home, is it possible that my PSU or RAM card is dead?

Thank you..

More about mobo starting
  1. If the board is getting power ''CPU Fan is on'' then it's probably not your PSU. They usually either work or don't work.

Have you tired powering on without RAM and see if you get any beeps or codes?

Is the RAM your using 100% compatible?

Have you tried different RAM in different RAM slots?

  2. Is your PSU powerful enough to run all your hardware? (CPU, HDD, DVD, RAM, GPU, fans, lights, etc, etc)

I have 4 available RAMs and non of them works... I tried powering on without RAM and it made a squeaking sound. I don't have an extra PSU, I might try tomorrow with on of my friend's. I tried my PSU to another board and the result is the same so my suspicion is high on PSU.

I only do bench test and did not plug other accessories like hard drive etc.

  4. Try your friends PSU and see what happens.

Slim possibility that it was damaged transporting from the sellers to your house but only you can confirm that.

The squeaking noise is very odd, not heard of that before coming from a computer.

Can you pin point where the noise is coming from?

I borrowed a totally working PSU and still the same.
Motherboard light is lit, CPU fan is running, no sound, no display. Only the memory is left untested. I have 2 and both provides the same result. Don't know what to do, maybe borrow another memory stick but I'm not sure if this will work. Do I need to reset the bios?

I removed the memory and it gives a 1 long and 2 short sounds. I followed the Breadboard guide and got nothing.

  6. No harm in re-setting the BIOS.

What board do you have (make & model)? You can look up in the manual what the beep sounds represent. They are used to indicate hardware problems.

I would try other RAM that you know works and see what happens or what beep codes you get and go from there.

Are you testing this outside of the case? (bench test)

  7. I think I have done everything and motherboard is really dead.

  8. The beeps could indicate that something is wrong with the board but not necessarily dead.

Send me the make and model and I can check what the beeps mean if you want?
