ok so im buying a motherboard it has 4 ram slots but it says dual channel so should i buy 2 or 4 ? please explain

I believe in your case, one channel goes to two slots and the other goes to two slots...so if you use two memory sticks you want one on the one channel and one on the other to get the best performance. If you use four it doesn't matter.

Best to buy a 2 stick kit of ram. You will get dual channel operation regardless. It will usually cost less because ram must be matched, and it costs more to match 4 sticks vs. 2. In addition it is harder for a cpu to manage 4 sticks vs 2.
