USB ports not working properly after cleaning motherboard

When I started my pc it ran properly, then the mouse started disconnecting and reconnecting at random times constantly, i uninstalled the usb root hub and restarted the pc. It worked properly for a few hours then it started to happen again. I decided to take my computer outside and remove every part and clean it since it was full of dust, i used ear buds with cotton at the tip to clean the dust off the motherboard. I plugged everything back in where it is suppose to be. Then the USB ports stopped working. I reinstalled windows and during the windows setup the mouse disconnected and reconnected again then it just stopped working. I tried removing the motherboard and replugging everything. I've tried to install linux but mouse also didnt work during installation. I can boot from USB's and install windows which is weird.

  1. maybe the mouse is failing. Have you tried a different mouse?

  2. I've tried 3 different mouses. The USB ports are the problem, I have updated the chipset drivers. Nothing have worked, what doesn't make sense is why the front panel uUSB's are acting the same because you plug them in separately on the motherboard. Flash drive doesn't pick up in my computer unless you restart computer, then it shows the drive and files.

  7. At this point, I think you may have a intermittent mobo problem. There are 2 potential solutions, replace the mobo or buy a PCIe USB card. Something like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166038

  8. okay so, i removed the one hard drive, and left the other hard drive in with nothing on it, installed ubuntu. then i installed windows 7 again, and somehow the usb ports started working again. the usb disconnects still very often but atleast I can use it. I don't know if ubuntu had an effect on the usb ports because they also didnt work in ubuntu. But if you're suffering from this problem, make sure to install ubuntu on a clean hard drive with nothing else inside your computer, ubuntu formats the drive as ext4 which i think altered something causing the usb to work. once you installed ubuntu, install windows again, it should possibly work then.
