MBR or GPT formatting?

I know 2TB or over needs GPT and under needs MBR, but I bought a 2TB HDD that shows up as only 1.8TB on Windows 7. Do I need to use GPT for the advertised 2 tb or MBR for the 1.8 TB that is shown on the disk management/partitioning application?

You can use either system but result will be same. The size difference comes from different ways disk manufacturers and Windows calculate. Disk manufacturers show physical number of bytes available ( 1KB = 1000 Bytes) while windows use logical Bytes (1KB = 1024 Bytes).
