Harddrive Grinding noises

Hi everyone, i am using a 1tb WD hard-drive (if model number is needed i will specify later) and during read/write the drive makes a medium pitch grinding noise. It is noticeable, but not overly too loud.

Occasionally, the drive makes a quick high pitch 'boop' noise also. Im not sure what this means, or if it is a problem.

Also, the drive itself has never had any issues such as not starting, data being wiped, or any hints as to the drive failing. It is just over a year old now.
In essence, i just want to know if this is just a normal sound for hard-drives, or if i should start backing up data. Thank you!

  1. I’d say it’s not normal and you should be backing up often anyway.
