Need help to oc gtx 980

so ive downloaded msi afterburner, gpu-z and other stuff like that. The stock core speed on the card is around 1250mhz, i've tried to overclock it to 1700mhz but i didnt feel happy about it so i put it down a few times and found 1445mhz was decent, the problem however is when i ran the full passmark test the monitor seemed to have stopped receiving signal and the screen went black but i was sure that it was still on. I am convinced that this is the gpu not the monitor hence this thread, i would like to know if i've done something wrong because this is my first time overclocking a gpu.
it isnt overheating because whilst running the full passmark test it hovered in the mid to high 40 degrees celcius which is about 113 degrees Fahrenheit. fans are at 100%, memory clock is 2000mhz, and power limit is at 110%. Thankyou my fellow pc enthusiasts in advance for your help.

  1. maybe the 1700mhz was a glitch and when you tested it with 1445mhz it did something weird? maybe its still boosted up with gpuboost to like 1500mhz or something maybe you didnt lcik accept or something idk man xd
