overclocking the i5 8600k with ASRock Z370 Extreme4

i am planning to overclock the i5 8600k with ASRock Z370 Extreme4 to 5Ghz using a NZXT Kraken X62. Is this too much for the cpu or is it okay ?

  1. It could be too much or just right.

It all depends on if you win the silicon lottery.

ASRock’s Extreme4 line are decent overclockers but not the high end. I wouldnt expect 5 but you might get lucky.

  3. How high you can OC a I5-8600K is determined by your luck in getting a good chip.

    as of 12/01'2017
What % of I5-8600k chips can oc
at a agressive vcore of 1.4 or so and delidded
    4.9 98%
    5.0 84%
    5.1 65%
    5.2 38%
    5.3 13%

For a stock, non delidded chip, expect less.

And... I would not spend a lot on water cooling when a good cooler like the Noctua NH-D15s will do the job at half the price.
