WD manufacture date 2014 reason for warranty refusal?

I bought a WD 3TB enterprise HD end November. WD commented date of purchase differs too much from date of manufacture which is 7 November 2014. WD is waiting for retailer to confirm that product sold to me was new. WD confirmed that the HD serial no. 130D2TNF5 that I bought had never been registered by another party for warranty. So what is the problem? Is there a shelf life for HDs? If so why didn't WD display it on the HD label. I bought the HD from Sim Lim Square, Singapore. nonwdfan.

When you check your warranty status here, what you get? For the serial number you've listed, I get "Invalid serial number".

Warranty conditions wary a lot, by country, by retailer, by contract.

  3. I had a series of email exchanges with WD Singapore and retailer. First, they rejected the retailer's invoice because it was handwritten and not electronic. After the retailer issued an electronic invoice in Excel format, they rejected it and asked for a non-editable format. Retailer then issued a 3rd Invoice in non-editable PDF format. WD accepted the 3rd invoice but still rejected warranty registration because gap between the purchase date of hard drive is "more than a year" from date of manufacture. WD wants verification from retailer that they sold me a new HDD. I'm still waiting for retailer's verification but all this is unnecessary hassle. Consumers do not know WD's policy until difficulties like this happen. Why can't WD be transparent by identifying on the HDD label the expiry date of warranty. Identifying the date of maufacture is not legal proof of warranty expiry after so many months from manufacture date, unless period (call it shell life) from date of manufacture is also specified in the label. Final decision on warranty still pending after 9 days of email exchanges.
