are my 8700k overclocking thermals normal ,do i have a bad water cooler ?

please share your thoughts guys
in the last 4 months i have built two systems a ryzen 1700x and lately a 8700k build i know these two are very different chips but a lot of things and more particularly the difference in thermals between them really baffles me
1700x 8700k
crosshair vi hero maximus x hero
maelstrom 120T kelvin S24
16 gb trident z 3000mhz 32 corsair LPX 2666MHZ
960 EVO M.2 960 EVO M.2
750 ti 750 ti
corsair carbide 600c MasterBox Lite 5
750W CORSAIR PSU 80 PLUS BRONZE COLLERMASTER 600W 80 PLUS

my ryzen is overclocked at 4.0 ghz with no issues i do a cinebench run it never goes above 61 degrees
i tried to get 8700k at 5.0 ghz 1,350 volts but it can reach as much as 76 in cinebench and then i tried dropping volts to 1.300 , at 5.0 and even 4.9 and 4.8 aida 64 test with fpu enabled goes above 80 degrees very fast , in 5.0 i even got 96 before i panicked and stop it , prime 95 after first test gave me a heart attack , in general i am very limited by the thermals
i am now at 4.7 with 1.200 volts which is ok for me but i am just trying to understand is this to be expected from the 8700k or is the kelvin bad or something ?
shouldn't it be able to cool the 8700k fast enough with it ? , the maelstrom i have on the ryzen system ,i can tell its working cause as soon as temps go up it kicks in and keeps everything under control ,it never lets temps go above 80 isn't the kelvin supposed to be the better cooler ?
all the reviewers made it seem like it was a breeze to get 5.0 on this

that is good temp for the 8700k bro i have my on the 4.7ghz and temp is 85c+ on stress test so you are good and i have kraken x62 with push pull

  2. Extreme benchmarks often represent an unrealistic CPU load. AIDA and the later versions of Prime95 both engage AVX which generates a lot of heat. Most every tasks don't. With Kabylake and Coffeelake you can set a different clock profile for AVX enabled tasks. So you might be able to enjoy your 5.0Ghz clock for games and other light tasks, and reserve something like 4.5Ghz across all cores for AVX tasks.

I would consider 76C in Cinebench at 1.35 volts to be quite good. The CPU is good until 90C or so, and the chances of the CPU staying at that temperature consistently during everyday use is pretty low.

  3. 8700k is generally very hot BUT delid will give you nice temp (around 80-85c) on 5.0/5.1 ghz
if you maintain the temp around 85-90c on the 4.8-4.9 ghz out of box then you got lucky on silicon lottery haha

  4. WOW if the kraken can't keep this thing under control nothing can ... thank you my friend ! ,so i guess this is to be expected i could get it to 5.0 with 1,300 volts and run cinebench and aida64 with only the stress cpu option enabled ,but because i wanted to account for summer temps and aging and degradation i wanted to be able to get away with the fpu test as well ,the other reason is i am building this for my best friend ,and he is not techy at all so he will never check temps or usage

  5. no problem, oh man i would put that on 4.7/4.8 for him its gonna last longer and that little performance difference would mean nothing to him..
this is my build custom loop is coming and next year gtx 20xx series https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHAv5EUXb4s&t=5s

  6. thank you all guys , i was thinking maybe the cooler was not working well , the reviewers made it seem like a breeze getting a 5.0 stable with water cooling even without delidding

i think that reviewers get on purpose way better "silicon lottery"

  8. yeah i think that too , at 4.7 i use 1.200 and it has passed aida 64 with FPU ,not going above 76 so i thought that would be for him , your build looks awesome btw man !
