will 8th gen ( coffee lake ) work on z2zo motherboards?

  1. 8th gen requires Z370 motherboard. There are no other options at this moment.

    Im just a little bit confused because the packaging in my i5-7600k is socket LGA 1151 and in 8th gen its also socket LGA 1151

    Yes it is the same socket but a i7 7xxx will not work with a Z370 board and a i7 8xxx will not work with a z170/270 board.

  4. Coffe Lake processors uses same LGA1151. But as per as intel, Coffee Lake and Z370 series, both, aren’t backward compatible, hence you can’t stick a Sky Lake or Kaby Lake into Z370 boards.
    This is due to power requirement on new boards.
