upgrading windows 98 to 98SE

do I need another code key for an upgrade disk?

    windows 98 has a differeing CD-keys than windows 98SE.
    they are 2 different OS, you will need a new key

  3. Funny, I don't remember Windows 98 or 98SE using keys at all. I just reinstalled a fresh copy of 98SE on my ancient laptop the other day.

    I remember having to recover the keys from the registry like so.
  5. I read a few other threads after posting and found someone's comment explaining that while they don't have an online activation (and never did), they do in fact have product keys. TIL. My install disc must have a script that puts the key in automatically (it's not an original install disc, I got it from one of my professors).
