Computer Freezes while playing games, peripherals lose power

Hello,

I have the weirdest crashes/freezes while playing games. This happens randomly. Sometimes I can go weeks without seeing it and other times it will happen once a gaming session.

I will be playing a game just fine and then I hear a high pitched buzz as all sound goes off, my image is frozen and my keyboard lights go off. My computer fans and the pc itself are still running but it almost feels like there's no power. I then have to hard reset. This is so random that it makes it hard to test.

Parts:
i5 6600k
EVGA GTX 980 TI
MSI Z170A Krait
16GB 2400 DDR4
120 GB Samsung evo SSD
250 GB Samsung evo SSD
500 GB WD HDD
Corsair HX 1050 Watt Power Supply (This is + my SSD are the oldest parts of my system, my guess its a PSU issue?)

The only overclock on the system is from turning on "game boost" in the bios which is a slight overclock set by MSI. .

  1. Try running without game boost for awhile.

True I thought of that. It just happens so randomly that I could go days/weeks without seeing it and thus run cpu intensive games at lower fps during that time. I'm not very experienced with overclocking, do you know if the game boost doesn't actually change any of the voltages? Would I be better off trying to manually tweak?

  3. Well you could try and run some benchmark programs and see what happens with the game boost on.

Then if it crashes, turn it off and run them again.

    3DMark is a good one.

  4. You need to turn that game boost off.
If it still happens then go from their.
I'm leaming more toward the motherboard.

Trying not to lean anywhere yet, but I was thinking that too.

Will wait and see what happens, hopefully not for his sake.

But MB's are still around for the CPU and current if it is so it won't be TOO bad.
