PC reboots when overclocking CPU, after I installed a 1080.

I was curious if I may be hitting the max my PSU can put out. I used to overclock my other system's Ryzen 1700 to 3.7ghz easy when I had a 750 ti in it. I then threw an ASUS Strix 1080 in there and when I overclock my processor my system will reboot. I have a 750w Bronze rated PSU. I used this overclock for a solid 3 months before I put the GPU in it. Any ideas?

  1. which bronze 750W unit?
the 1080 uses dramatically more power (3x) than the 750ti. 180w vs 60W

Sorry, proIly should have had it in the original text. I have a Corsair CX750M. (Newegg link: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139051)

I bought it a few years back, and it has done me right since. I didn't think a singular 1080 would make hardly any system go over 750w. I also have like 3 hard drives and 2 SSDs(One NVMe and the other sata)

Edit: sorry for the late response! I've been busy with work.

I have the green unit. Newegg just merged the pages, I guess. I suppose the question is if the issue sounds like the PSU(Seems like the only logical thing) and if I should try buying another PSU and if so, should it be like 850w or higher?

  5. I believe 750w is fine, just make sure you buy gold and not bronze. And fully modular, trust me you will love it. Use PC part picker and it will tell you how much w you need, I would go over that 200w or so.

  6. Alright, I got an EVGA SuperNOVA 850w 80+ gold certified PSU. I'll post back when it gets here and I install it(Wednesday).

  7. EVGA makes some good PSUs. I have a G2 in my rig, and I just put a G3 in my brothers rig.

  8. the EVGA g2/g3 are my go to for units over 750W (10 year warranty), under 750W the RMx series from corsair has the same warranty and quality on the lower wattages.
My nephew just got the g3 on my advice and loves it.
that power supply should be good for your next three builds assuming 3 yr cycles

  9. Seems like my overclock is working so far(Been using it for a few hours, and benched it with CPU-Z(https://valid.x86.fr/unutl0). I also got an corsair H60. (Bought from a friend new for $30) Thanks for all your guys' help confirming my suspicions!
