Xeon x5650 on Dell T3500 overclocking

Hey guys, I tried to overclock my Xeon via SetFSB and WR-Everything. I know the Pll and which byte I have to change and it works, but only if I increase the value very slightly. (about 5 points) When I change it harder, the PC is going to freeze.
Can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? I know serverboards are not made for overclocking, but I want to get that running. Im happy about every answer.

  1. You won't get anywhere with that , not built to OC.

With some modding you can do a very slight oc with the t3500 but the chance of killing your board is extremely high for a 5% non guaranteed working oc.

  3. The W3690/3680 is what you want. I PM'd you some tips on overclocking Dells. I'll let the link in my sig. show what I mean.

  4. Here are some T3500 builds. no OC as far as I know. You will notice no recent Radeon GPUs. they won't display the Dell BIOS screen.

  5. Are you set a six core CPU? If not I would suggest a 4-core X5687, which can usually be had for $40-$50. Works great in these T3500. As do the RX 480.

    Hey Jaslion,

thanks for your answer! What type of modding youre talking about?

    Hey Susquehannock,

thanks for your answer too. I have a six core CPU, and I was impressed of the overclocking results with this processor (with about 4ghz and more!).

Maybe I will buy a W3690, as William said...

  7. t3500 is NOT for ovecklocking! BIOS does not support overcklocking. There is no access to voltage control. You still can overclock a little bit, ~100mhz

  8. The problem you're having is that you aren't raising the Voltage to allow the overclock to go further. if you can get control of Voltage with RW everything then you will be good.
The unlocked CPUs allow raising Voltage also.mTo get a good overclock you need, Cooling, Voltage, and then FSB/Multiplier. I put them in that order for a reason.
Those CPUs don't deal in Volts, but Current I think. So visit some forums and see what they're calling it.
