Laptop is extremely slow and sometime it shows "No Bootable Device Found" at boot.

Hello there, I'm using a lenovo ideapad 310. My laptop has recently got this weird problem, it is excessively lagging, the disk usage is always at 95-99% and sometimes the OS just crashes on it's own and shows "No Bootable Device Found". I've tried resetting the BIOS but it shows "Hard Drive Undetectable". However, after a few reboot it automatically detects the hard disk again. I've reinstalled the OS several times, didn't work. Also Formatted the whole hard disk, still did not work. Does this mean that my hard disk got damaged? If yes, will performing a low level format or writing zeros help? Thank you.

Sounds like a dying hard drive so you'll need to run your diagnostic software of choice. Sometimes it can help, but if the hard drive has physical damage -- which is common -- it's mostly just funeral rites.

Thank you so much for replying. I've still got 6 months of warranty left, so maybe I should send it to the manufacturer. But I'd love to check for the hard drive errors first, please do suggest a bootable diagnostic software.

  3. SeaTools is a popular place to start as is WD Digital Lifeguard. What to depends on what results you get, but I expect an RMA is in order. The biggest question is making sure you've got your important data backed up and off that hard drive.
