Choosing a cpu - First time pc build

I'm having trouble choosing a CPU for my pc. I've been looking at i5-7600k vs i5-7500 vs i5-6600k vs i5-7400 but am open to others of course. My issue is deciding which is the best option considering price, the current parts I have and what I will be using it for (below). As I don't want extra processing power that wont be utilized and also don't want to fall short.
Already have:
Ram: Corsair 2666Mhz Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 - red
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
Note: I plan on getting ssd, potentially nvme m.2, so i'd prefer to get a motherboard with an m.2 slot.
Playing shooters like cs, overwatch and pubg would be the most resource intensive tasks I will use it for.
TIA

Either the 7600K with (any) Z270Mb or I would say the 6700K with a z170Mb. The 6700K is an i7 and still a good one. Or go all the way for the 7700K if you budget allows it.
Do not forget you will also need a cooler for any "K" processor that you decide to buy.

And buy a decent Psu. A Corsair CX650M is a good investment for its price.

  2. I agree with the 6700k approach, if you are budget conscious, but want to still not be handcuffed by CPU... The z170 MBs are pretty cheap, seem to have M.2 (at least the ones I researched), and will handle what you likely need for a good while.

I have a 6700K with an ASUS Sabertooth z170s, I really like it. I have never felt limited in anything I have done with my PC. Tons of CPU horsepower, and it does make a difference in places, having that little extra. For example, never thought I would use Handbrake, but when I did, the CPU killed it without much of a sweat...
