  1. If under warranty, contact HP.
If not, make sure its connected properly.
    - Is it detected in the bios?
    - Do you have a backup or do you need to recover files from it?

  4. The replacement drive is not bootable until after you reinstall windows. Run your windows install media and see if that detects the new drive.

  6. Turn off the laptop with the windows install dvd already inserted.
When you turn it on, you will see a message, at the bottom, similar to 'Select Boot Drive' or 'Boot Options' .. Something like that. Its usually an F-Key and HP's are often the F9 key.
This should bring you to the boot drive selection where you can select the drive/windows disk and begin installing.
