New PC build, Monitor won't connect to it.

I have just recently built a new PC. When i try and connect my PC to my monitor with a HDMI or a VGA cable, the monitor just says "No signal". Both my mouse and keyboard work though. The VGA and HDMI cables aren't on my GPU if that makes a difference. The GPU only has a port for a DVI cable, so when I plug the HDMI or VGA cable in, they are directly connected to the motherboard. Everything else is set up properly. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
