Curious if my comp is maxed out

I am trying to figure out why I cannot get at least 60fps in PC games. I'm using a gigabyte sapphire R9 290x OC 4gb on board. Using an i7I7700k CPU and a z170mx mob. 16gb ddr4 ram.

More about curious comp maxed
  1. Use something like HWInfo and MSI Afterburner to monitor usage in game.

All I would note is that your GPU is potentially the component holding you back in more GPU focused applications. If there is a problem that is. Also online will also depend on the quality of your internet connection.

What games and what settings? You could be trying to run some bad console port at Ultra on 4k.

  3. mainly right now i am playing Pubg(playerunknowns battlegrounds) and majority of my setting are on ultra, with a few items set to medium. It mainly sits at 36-40fps with random drops or rises but nothing consistent. Isnt the 290x still a higher end card? would it make a difference if i found a 2nd one and crossfired them?. i think the card performs great besides the pubg issue. i cannot afford a new card for a long while due to already building around the gpu .with the i7 and the mobo n such.

Your card, at Medium settings at 1080 resolution should get to about 60 for PUBG. Also nVidia cards do better than AMD cards in that game. http://www.pcgamer.com/best-pubg-settings/

Your card is a good one, but it's design is about 4 years old.
