bottlneck whattheheck ?

hi, i have a fx8350 with a gtx turbo 1070.
i play eso online with ultra setting and everything on ultra/max

one thing i find very odd is that my cpu is using 50% ( 50-51 celcius) and my gpu is like 35% ( 55 celcius)

is this normal, i thought the cpu would go like 80-90% and gpu 40% causing the bottleneck at my cpu..
have 16 gb vengance pro 1600hz ram and rm750i psu.
running ssd on win 10 and game on a hdd :)

  1. It's normal(ish), yes.

An FX8350 is an 8 core CPU........ I don't believe ESO can utilize >4 cores.

So 50% utilization could also be expressed as 100% of the available 4 cores.

  2. Elder Scrolls online needs next to nothing to run on ultra.

You'll bottleneck when you start getting to CPU intensive games.

  3. okay can you give me example of games ? doom ?
    i used this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_K2SmxTIvE
and i had stock cpu / non clock 4.01

but in 50% isnt 50-51 celcius high with my be-quiet pure rock cooler ??

  4. also give me some exaples of games that will max my 8 core cpu :) thanks

  5. Newer, open-world titles would be more "CPU intensive" (generally), but to varying degrees.

ROTTR, GTAV, PUBG, ResEv7 could all be deemed "CPU intensive", although for different reasons.

Also, just because a game is "CPU intensive", doesn't necessarily mean it can utilize all the cores available to it.

That's a bit backwards. Determine what it is you'd like to play, then look to compatibility with your hardware.
No sense playing a game you have little to no interest in, just because it can use 8 cores.

  6. did a stress test on my gpu card lock on 95% giving it a 69-70 celcius at top. is this good?
used msi kombustor preset with 1980x1080 :)
    212 fps

That don't mean nothing if you used 100% of 2 cores and 75 of 2 cores then a little of the others it would put you in the 50% area.
The 8350 is already 5 years old and was not a good gaming chip when released it was easily beat for gaming buy a Intel i3 from the same year.
    Example fallout 4

  9. Fallout 4 scales with 8 cores, Skyrim Special edition too, Battlefield 1, Overwatch, basically almost any DX11 or DX12 games utilize multicore cpu's > 2 threads. But you gotta remember, FX IPC (Instructions Per Clock) is pretty terrible so it will bottleneck almost all modern GPU's unless highly overclocked.

If you look at the 2 benchmarks the simple i3 even beats the FX 9590 that is 4.7 The FX processors just are bad for gaming and always have been.
Fallout 4 as you said. Even the G1820 with just 2 cores at the low rate of 2.7 matches the 4 core 4320 at 4.0

Oh, no I agree completely. I was just stating games that will use 8 cores. The reason FX is so bad like the 8320 for example is because it may have 8 cores, but they only have 4 FPU's so it essentially creates a bottleneck for almost anything because 2 cores sharing 1 FPU kills the IPC bad. I think JayzTwoCents did a video abou the FX series that was really detailed.

  12. i played bf1 today , downgraded to 970 gts using 99% gpu
my cpu is at 50-60% and loading 65-70 celisius. what can i do in my settings to make it cooler in the game ?

i have ordered watercooling ( h90) and a corsair case with all fans included and zalman fan control..
currently i have no fan att all in my big tower chieftheck case :P
also bought noctura cooling paste ;P

That's about all you can do is get a better cooler, work on cable management and ensuring your case has optimal airflow. Also underclocking and undervolting the cpu will help but that will slow things down.

  15. i have used my computer wth the chase door locked... my cpu ran up to 60-70 celsius..
changed the coolingpasta on my cpu and opened my window and chase door.. suddenly cpu dropped to 50-55 celcius with 0.2 ghz clock.. cant wait to get my h90 liquidcooler and new chase with all fans included :D

Just make sure your pc has room for that 140mm radiator, if not you may have to get the 120mm H80.
