Gtx 1080 underperforming. Cpu usage 100%

Well hello there.

Just recently bought myself a nice msi Gtx 1080 gaming x 8g graphics card. Before i ran a gtx 980.
My specs are:
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Motherboard
Intel Core i7 4771 / 3.5 GHz processor
LGA1150
Msi gtx 1080 gaming x 8g
Corsair Hydro Series H75
16gb ram corsair vengaence
Samsung evo850 250gb ssd
1tb harddisk
Benq 2720z 144hz monitor.

Now my problem.
When playing battlefield 1 all 4 cores run at 100% and gpu usage is spiking like crazy. Fps 70-85 on ultra. Stuttering.
When playing playerunknowns battlegrounds before i was getting like 70-80 Fps with The gtx980 and now with The 1080 barely 60 andere gpu usage is like 60%. Cpu 80-90.
With The uniheaven benchmark it scores like all other 1080's pretty damn good.
Whats wrong? Is The 1920x1080 at 144hz Just too soft for The 1080?
Or is The processor bottlenecking. So far i know it is a pretty good cpu.
Guys please help me out because i would like to see its full potential
Greetings
Steve

  1. Clearly CPU is bottlenecking, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8K2yc11eC4
High GHz I7 are getting crushed due to lack of cores and more modern games are optimized with more cores. You may want to consider coffee lake I5 for an upgrade to match GTX 1080 or get Ryzen 1600, new MB and fast ram.

What is your budget for changing? I can help accordingly. Also with selling your old parts, you may actually not spend that much money. What are your current rig specs?

    Hi there,
Just bought the msi gtx 1080 but it is not working properly.
    I got a Benq 2720z monitor playing at 1920x1080 at 144hz.
Something is off, maybe it is an overkill? Maybe the gtx1080 is a bit too much voor 1080p ?
    Processor is an i7 4771 3,5ghz.
    Please help me out !

Please elaborate. What seems to be the problem? Is it not giving off any display at all?

low fps, gpu usage not fully at 99% in games where my gtx980 did what it had to do, i dunno. It feels like the gtx 1080 is too powerful for this 144hz 1080p.

So you are getting low fps but you think the GTX 1080 is too powerful... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should be getting insanely high fps 100+ on average with no issues. This of course depends on what game you are playing. If it's something like CS:GO which is quite CPU intensive, then your CPU is the problem. But that doesn't seem to be true in your case as it will cause stuttering. Check to see if V-Sync/G-sync is turned off. Make sure your monitor is running at 144Hz.

  6. Did more research and it seems your CPU should be fine. Can you check is 100% CPU all occupied by the game or something else? If you are streaming, that can occupy a lot of cpu power. If not, check for malware/virus first. Also try V-sync/G-sync as well :)

    Ok guys.

Still not sure what to do.

    Running a i7 4771.
    Thinking about upgrading to a i7 7700k.

    Or
Selling my benq 2720z 144hz and getting a 1440p gysnc.

Installed bf4 Just to check and i get like 90fps with the gtx1080.
    Before with the gtx980 120+fps.

    This is killing me.

What do i need to do??
