Will a new Windows 10 install onto an SSD have bios setting of AHCI over IDE?

I've just bought myself a new SSD (Samsung Evo 250GB) And I am going to install a fresh, clean version of Windows 10 onto it. Will the sata type automatically be set to AHCI or IDE? And if it not AHCI how do I change it before Windows installs? Will be booting from a flash drive so do I need to adjust it in the bios before I start?

  1. It won't change automatically. You have to go into bios and change it. Read your MB's manual on how to change the setting.

  2. If you set the SATA type for AHCI then windows will use that driver when it installs. Way easier to install it correctly than try to change it afterwards.
