Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU compatibility with Gskill Flare X/ height of AM4 and 1151 socket

Hi. I'd like to know the height of AM4 and 1151 socket on the motherboards. I'd like to get the Dark Rock Pro 3 working on my ryzen 1600x but the thing is Flare X is 40mm high and CPU cooler supports 39mm max high ram. Any chance I can get squeezed out that 1mm?

  1. Are you only using two sticks? My friend has that cooler with an 1151 motherboard, if you use DIMM slots 2 and 4, the RAM wont be under the cooler and you should have plenty of room.

If you are using 4 sticks and the the stick in DIMM #1 does not fit under the cooler you can either remove the heat spreader on the stick, or massage the cooler a bit and make it fit, 1mm is not much.

I am not sure the height of the socket with a cpu installed, be quiet may have already taken that into account however.

  2. I will go for 2 sticks now and lets say 5 years later, I will upgrade it 4 sticks of ram. I guess I ll cut out few metal plates underneath of the CPU cooler.

Yeah that should work, there is no problem cutting into the fins a bit assuming you dont hit a heat pipe. You may not even need to, you are very close to it fitting out of the box assuming those measurements are correct.

  5. GSkill Flare fits perfectly under the Dark Rock Pro 3 cooler. I just had to rise the front fan a little bit higher.
