Gtx 1080 and Ryzen 1700 are underperforming. Any ideas?

I am getting frames lower than I should in many games. I am running them in 1440p on highest settings and the frames I'm getting are by no means unplayable, but I expect more.

Specs:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Msi B350 Tomahawk Arctic (Newest BIOS and chipset drivers)
Ryzen 1700 (Stock speed)
Gtx 1080 (OEM Msi Aero)
2 8gb sticks of DDR4 (Ripjaws V 3200 running at 2933mhz)
750w PSU
1tb sata ssd (Sandisk ultra 3d)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. $20 bounty to anyone whose solution works. Thank you in advance.
  2. What do you expect and what do you get?
  3. Well blacklight retribution is one example. I get about 50 fps. My girlfriend plays at the same settings and gets over 100 on a g4620 and a 1050ti.
  4. Don't know that game but if it is a single threaded game it is very likely that the Intel would be faster. In general Intel are better for gaming.
Could you download HWmonitor and record temps and loads while playing, that way we can see if it is a CPU bottleneck .

Yeah. Would you like a screenshot, or a log?
  6. A screenshot would be nice

I lowered the res and windowed it next to it. Frames are still low, but it's hardly stressing the CPU.

It may very well be stressing just a couple of your cores to the max. If a game only uses a single thread then Windows will rotate that thread between all the cores and thus it will look like you are not loading any of the cores at 100% but in reality you are maxing 1 or 2 cores.
You said you lowered the resolution but still getting low frames usually means you have CPU bottleneck. Look at your GPU, it is only at 13% load. I think that this game is just CPU dependent and not multithreaded and thus it will run much better on the higher clocked Intel CPU which also has a more efficient IPC.

Ahh. That makes sense. Well, I've heard the 1700 is a great overclocker, but I've not OCed before (except ram). Any advice there?
  10. Being an Intel guy myself i don't know about Ryzen really. But it seems everyone can get them to at least 3.8GHz and some chips can go to 3.9 and 4.0GHz. That should help a bit, but probably still lack behind the Intel CPU in this particular game.

Alright. Well for now, I'll consider this a solution. If you have Paypal, pm it to me for payment. Thanks!

Update: I OCed it to 3.7Ghz and my fps jumped over 200. Success!
