Panicking! Graphics card stuck in PCI-E slot.

Hello fellow forum members,

I have been facing this issue with my friend's PC, and I made sure that I disconnected everything and removed both screws from the bracket.

Nothing is standing in the way and blocking the card from getting out as it can wiggle side by side and I can actually pull out the bracket side of the card and the pins come out "albeit at a angle that seems to be damaging, stopped doing that immediately and inserted it back", the issue is the PCI-E latch that just wouldn't budge no matter what even when I tried getting the MoBo and card in one piece out of the case and trying to unlatch it there.

Notice that I tried unlatching it both INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the case, the standoff loosening trick won't work in my this situation and I have tried it before extracting the motherboard + video card out of the case in one piece to try unlatching it once again.

I have tried putting in another card I have and the latch unlatches easily with almost no effort, but this one won't budge even with intense "yet safe" force "all of my fingers are now sore.".

I have tried the "Pencil eraser" idea to use a soft and safe lever to manipulate the latch, but it won't budge even with that!

In addition, I have to clarify that the latch is locked and trying to manipulate it will only slightly flex it away but in the end it never moved from its completely locked position. Trying to pull it up is unnecessary since it is already in the locked position, I guess the "pulling it up to lock it then trying to unlock it" method wouldn't work in this situation too.

Since i tested out another slot with another card, it seems like either his card or the slot that the card is currently residing in could be the culprit.

I'm at a complete loss here!!

Reading about it's not a common problem but people still have it happen. One suggestion I saw was to give the card a a sort of "I am installing the card" kind of push into its slot before then trying to unlock it again OR even try pushing into the slot while also trying to unlock the card at the same time (which sounds a little desperate to me) . It certainly sounds like one of those problems which just requires the right combo of pushes / wiggles to get free. Good luck!

  4. I'm used to the old latches that move sideways. maybe if you Lift the other end of the card up, and push the card down at the latch it will gain a little clearnce to move the latch.

Well, thanks PistolPaul for the suggestion!

But this might work for other cases, in my case I resorted to sawing off the PCI-E latch since nothing else worked so far "tried every single wiggle method to no success" but at the end the latch can be replaced so no worries.

I thank all of you for your contributions in this thread.
