Motherboard not compatible with CPU but socket is?

Hey guys. So I want to upgrade my current CPU (Intel Core 2 Duo E7500) to a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, and I do have a LGA775 socket, but thing is that when I check my motherboard's CPU support list, the Q6600 is not listed there. So should I buy the Q6600 or not?

No because that motherboard only supports 45 nm processors like your E7500; it doesn't support older 65 nm processors like the Q6600.

  4. bios/chipset have to support the cpu too, not just because it fit same socket.
