Are x370 mATX motherboards in the works?

At the end of 2011 I built a mATX first gen i7 machine based around an Asus Rampage Gene III. It's time to upgrade. I'm interested in doing a Ryzen system with a X370 board. However, I have only found 1 existing mATX board by Biostar. Are more in that size format expected? Anyone have info on that? Or will manufacturers abandon the format and just jump to making Threadripper boards?

  1. I don't know what the deal is with that. Seems AMD boards are hard to come by in high-end mATX. I went thru that with the AM3+ series for years before Asrock finally released one. Btw, Asrock makes a nice mITX if that would work for you.

  2. I won't build till November. So there is still time. However, if nothing is available by then, does mITX fit a mATX case?

  3. Currently, there is only 1 mATX motherboard with an X370 chipset (the Biostar you mentioned, X370GT3). The rest of the mATX motherboards (there are 17 in my list, are all B350-chipset mobos). For ITX, there are 5 available (2 are X370's and 3 are B350's).

Check out the list of AM4 motherboards I made here so you can compare: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3502839/am4-motherboard-amd-ryzen-cpu-specs-comparison-list.html

ITX boards fit inside mATX cases.

Yes. ATX, mATX, mITX all use the same hole pattern. Just more or less of the standoffs.

In the mean time, check out some of the great mITX cases available now. Might want to go smaller than even mATX when it comes to case-buying time.

I came across this build in the Newegg comments on the BIOSTAR X370GTN AM4 AMD X370 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard. Come November I'll see what's new out there, but much of this will work for me. I'm especially interested in the Hydro cooler he installed in such a small package. Temp control has always been a chore with my current machine. Especially when rendering a 3d model.

    System Configuration:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 1800X
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
    RAM: Corsair 2x16GB CMK32GX4M2B3000C15
    SDD: Samsung 960 PRO M.2 512GB
Cooler: Corsair Hydro H90 Water Cooler
    PSU: SilverStone ST70F-ESG 700W
    Chassis: SilverStone SG08B-LITE
    Monitor: Asus ROG PG27AQ (4K IPS w/Gsync)
BIOS Version: Latest shipped with board 4/13/2017
