Need help with I5-7600K overclock

Hi!

I recently built a new gaming pc and here are the specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nQQRd6

I applied TPU 2 in bios and now my cpu is @ 4.8ghz with 1.35V (sometimes randomly jumps at 1.38V for couple seconds) but the average is 1.35V

I stressed my cpu with prime95 (26.6) small ffts and temps were MAXED from core0 to core3: 72C - 70C - 76C - 74C

Am i safe with these frequencies, volts and temps? or should i go with TPU 1 @ 4.5ghz

  2. Temps are fine thanks to that NH-D15 but that voltage is well above average from what I've seen in reviews of that CPU by hardware tech sites. I've seen people report 5.0GHz with less voltage than that. Anandtech for example got their sample up to 4.8GHz with only 1.26V using a Cooler Master Nepton 140XL AIO closed loop (similar in performance to your NH-D15). Guru3D got theirs up to 4.8GHz right at 1.29V using a Corsair H80i. You can see Anandtech's rundown of overclock experience here:

    Have you tried manually adjusting Vcore settings or are you just letting the motherboard do all the voltage controlling through TPU? Generally motherboards will pump more juice than is necessary when they control the overclocking. It's convenient with a one-finger click, but it's far from optimized performance, especially in the upper ranges of overlocking.

    TPU is controlling the voltage, ive tried to manually OC and adjust lower voltages, but i cant get it stable and sometimes if i put 1.28V core temp shows me like 1.15V. I dont know what to do

  4. Start out gradually. First, set the CPU voltage to offset mode (it will throttle down the voltage to idle conditions like 1.10v when not loaded). Then take a random shot with say a multiplier of 43 and Vcore at 1.125. If it blue screens or fails to post, then uptick the voltage by +.005v each time until you get stability (1.130, 1.135, 1.140, etc.). From there you can fine tune the voltage +/- .0025 for optimal voltage/stability (1.1325, 1.1375, 1.1425, etc.).

    Overclocking manually is a lot of trial and error, and no two chips will perform exactly the same (hence the difference between Anandtech's 1.26v and Guru3D's 1.29V at the same 4.8GHz). If it is stable at 4.3GHz at 1.125v, then raise the multiplier to 44 and repeat the process going back and forth between voltage and multiplier until you find a happy medium.

    Again, your temps are fine and as long as voltage is under 1.40 that's not an issue either long term. I just think you can do the same overclock with less manual voltage. I can't imagine your chip is *that* bad requiring that much voltage to keep stable at a certain overclock.

    I tried OC manually. Put the multiplier to 43 and voltage to 1.125V, booted fine, but hwinfo and core temp says the voltage is 1.16V. Also tried to put the CPU load line calibration to level 3 and level 5 but no help

  6. That's probably a misread of voltage between HWINFO and your motherboard. I'd trust what your BIOS is saying in voltage over external software. I'm not familiar with the newer BIOSs of ASUS boards as I have a three year old i5 4690K running on an ASUS Z97-AR, so I can't give specific instructions.
