Intel® Xeon® Processor X5670 vs Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8500 in overclocking speed??

Hey guys,
This probably a stupid question but I recently read some reviews about these 2 processors, 1st one about this xeon is "that x 5670 is pretty dated now but with oc i belive its still surpass any i7 4/8 in processing power :) " , another one: " on 4.2ghz it will be always more powerfull then any i7 4/8 "..
on this 2 duo E8500 is " I've seen E8500s go to 4.5 GHZ, they are STUPIDLY fast at that speed, even by today's standards. "
another review: http://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/intel-core-2-duo-e8500-intel-core-2-duo-e8500-page-2
" however we see reports from CeBIT of a Core 2 Duo E8500 running a core voltage of 1.824V with huge cooling to achieve a clock speed beyond 5GHz."
another one which i read by a viewer on amazon saying "more clock speeds are better than more cores"
so which of these 2 processors will win if both are oced to 4.2/4.5 GHZ?
Thanks <3

  1. It depends on what you want to do, I've recently sold a pair of E5645's (obviously the way slower 2.4ghz clock) but hell could those things churn through video encodes

Old xeons are cheap workhorses thats for sure! - you really can get them for silly prices.

I meant to use these 2 processors in gaming, since all these reviews i read were about gaming.

x5670 vs a e8500, clock for clock the x5670 will win, its a gen newer and is a 6 core 12thread cpu vs the e8500 that is a 2 core 2 thread. Even at stock speeds the x5670 being slower still beats it in single core performance.

Even to this day i run a x5690 with dual 780's and it does just fine for casual gaming.
