Can I upgrade my GPU without CPU bottlenecking?

Hi I have a GTX 970 and an i7-4790 @ 3.60Ghz processor. Can I upgrade my GPU or will my CPU bottleneck it? If I can what card would you recommend?

My motherboard is a ASUS® Z97-A: ATX, USB3.0, SATA 6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE

Thank you

coming from a 970 which is still a good mid range card Id say it has to be at least a 1080 or its not a significant enough upgrade.

Your cpu is fine, thats not an issue at all.

  3. the resolution you play at will have some impact

I upgraded to the 1080ti and at 1080p my 4790K was bottlenecking just a little bit with the odd frame drop and stutter (and that was overclocked to 4.6ghz).

Switched to a 1440p monitor and it's been butter smooth ever since.
