Depends on the game....if you're CPU bound in the game you're playing, overclocking will help. Ryzen's single core performance isn't all that great, so in older games on DX11, and lightly threaded games (games using only one core at a time), then overclocking the CPU should help out.
There are also other factors to take into consideration as well. For instance.....the lower the resolution (720 / 1050 / 1080), the more pressure it'll put on the CPU. So, in some cases there, even heavily threaded games could possibly benefit from an overclock on the CPU.
IN short....there is no easy answer to that question. It'll depend on the game you happen to be playing at the time. It'll help in some, not in others. HOWEVER, overclocking the CPU will never HURT your gaming performance, regardless.
